About
Alex grew up in the English countryside, surrounded by beautiful gardens and keen gardeners. All was taken for granted until she took on a large neglected garden in Ireland, at which point she realised she had inherited the family passion.
Coming to garden design after a career in strategy consulting, Alex’s business background underpins her approach. With strong commercial acumen and an eye for detail, she is very comfortable managing all the moving parts that make up a successful project.
Alex trained with the Garden Design Academy of Ireland, achieving a Distinction in her Post-Graduate Diploma in Garden Design. She also holds an RHS Level 2 Certificate in Horticulture, and completed a head gardener apprenticeship through WRAGS (Women Retraining in Agriculture and Gardening Scheme), at Dunsborough Park. Alex is part way through the process of becoming a Registered Member of the Society of Garden Designers.
Shortly after establishing her own practice in Ireland in 2016, Alex won a national television competition for new designers. This led to exhibiting a show garden at ‘Bloom’, Ireland’s national garden show, which won a silver medal.
Upon moving back to London, Alex worked part time for Mazzullo + Russell Landscape Design, a leading practice in London. This enabled her to broadened her experience and skillset alongside her own design practice. Alex has also had a show garden featured on BBC Gardeners’ World, which won silver at Gardeners’ World Live in 2019.
In 2021 Alex co-founded Dig Club, a garden design company committed to making it easier for people to have beautiful gardens, whatever their budget. Alex now works solely through Dig, with a focus on the larger bespoke projects.
