Formal shady garden, notting hill

A generous but shaded garden at the base of a very tall Regency terraced house. The design is simple but elegant, with a split level terrace in a light Italian porcelain, which will reflect light at ground level and brighten the space.

The row of three large standard Ilex aquifolium counter the vertical mass of the six story brick wall behind the garden, and add a sense of enclosure without blocking light. Then a dwarf evergreen Magnolia near the house creates a layered effect, partially hiding the upper terrace from view. The planting is predominantly evergreen to reduce maintenance, with white flowers blooming throughout the seasons bringing a sense of calm and sanctuary within central London.
