Party garden, South Dublin
The client was keen to create a space for parties and entertaining, away from the house at the bottom of the garden. The existing terrace outside the house was to remain in pace, and so the design split the garden into three, with a gravel garden leading to the sunken seating area beyond.
There is a fire pit at the centre of the seating area, and decorative tile capping on the raised beds, which provides a rest for drinks, food and elbows.
Privacy was important, so the tall raised beds contain hedges of Phyllostachys, and the gravel garden is flanked by two multi-stem Acers, which will partly hide the garden beyond.
The planting design is contemporary, with texture and form taking precedent over flower colour.
