roof terrace, notting hill
This large roof terrace, in a wonderful location just off Hyde Park, sits at the top of a five storey Regency townhouse, with far reaching views across London.
The roof terrace has previously been access only, but with a large roof light and staircase installed, the owner would like to open it up as an entertaining space.
The design includes redirecting the safety railings to incorporate a previously unused space, which will become alcove seating. The railings will be faced with horizontal wooden slats, to improve privacy and shelter from the elements. The exposed brick and rows of chimneys will remain key features, creating an urban aesthetic, but with all unsightly elements obscured by trellis, planters and planting.
The planting will be evergreen, hardy and drought resistant, with large architectural foliage branching out into the unrestrained expanse above and around the terrace.
